Summary
During my final year at university, I have had the opportunity to be the VR Manager of the Degree Show. The annual degree show is an opportunity to showcase student work to staff and industry guests.
However, due to the physical limitations set by the pandemic, the event was implemented using VR technology. Keep It Brief brand was designed by Brunel Digital to encompass and represent the virtual reality setting.
Planning
Introduction:
To start the project, we needed to ensure that responsibilities were divided amongst the team. Additionally, we prioritised features and functionalities that are essential to the users.
Process:
We created a roadmap to identify the steps required for a successful launch. We pre-assigned different rooms to people and collected the quantitative data required to facilitate the assets in each room.
Results:
As a result of the roadmap we were able to communicate and stay more aligned to each others work responsibilities.
UX Architecture
Introduction:
The project started by evaluating the previous VR experience created last year. After familiarising with the experience, I organised meetings to discuss objectives and KPI's required to ideate, design and develop the VR setting. I used an application map to verify the types of rooms required and the user flow in which the users would go through.
I also created a content map to conceptualise the elements I needed to implement. After the initial planning phase, I created a roadmap to manage the tasks and communicate deadlines to my colleagues. Hosting meetings occasionally to clarify progress pandemic discuss problems to tackle.
Process:
I created design concepts and presented them to stakeholders. After sketching the designs, I digitalised the idea using Adobe Illustrator. After creating multiple designs, I communicated with the developers to understand the feasibility using Slack and progressed the information into tasks using Trello.
Results:
After the concepts were developed, I hosted and conducted usability testing for bugs and errors. The deadline was met on time and students, staff as well as industry guests had a strong positive feedback. As a result, I have also won 'Best VR Project Award' during the Digital Media Awards 2021.
Design Concepts
Introduction:
I sketched out a few designs to establish how the visual identity reflects against the scenery. Using the brand guidelines, I created a few concepts.
Process:
The concepts were sketched out and presented to stakeholders with a mood board in mind. After gathering feedback, I iterated on this and created digital versions, as well as user interface designs for text based information and imagery to help guide the user.
Results:
The concepts were taken to development to be constructed into 3D Assets
Next Steps
Introduction:
Book AR Function was created so that when users scan a code it shows 3D assets created by students.
Process:
The concept was built and worked successfully.
Results:
Due to budgeting issues, we were not able to do the book AR function.
